To develop lifestyle products inspired from Ganjifa Cards - Sawantwadi.To understand the craft and to restore its importance. To help the artisians in imporiving the variety and qulity of products.

Research & Analysis

Playing cards was a part of Indian culture especially during the festivals or functions where all the community members sit together and spend their time in playing this card game. The ornate nature of this Ganjifa craft lends itself to combine our history with our leisure

Ganjifa cards are the traditional cards which are based on Indian mythology and history. These cards are circular or rectangular in shape and are hand painted by the artisans.

There are total 100-120 cards in a box which ranges from 5000 to 10000 and are usually deported to foreign countries.

Sawantwadi in Maharashtra district is know for preserving the dying craft of Ganjifa there are five different types of Ganjifa cards are hand painted in Sawantwadi they are :

  • Dashavatara Ganjifa (based on 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu).

  • Aarya Dev Ganjifa (based on Indian gods and goddesses)

  • Rashi Ganjifa (based on sun signs).

  • Navagraha Ganjifa (based on nine planets in the solar system).

  • Ramayana Ganjifa (based on characters from Ramayana).

The cards come in a beautifully hand painted wooden box with the user manual.
